Though I should say, there are some people out there that aren't as big on carrying cash (me for example) I personally loathe retailers who only accept cash. Whenever I have only cash on me, I always 1. spend it all too quickly or 2. lose it. More 2 than 1. I have a similar idea to your envelope method.
